FLYING THE AIR SAFETY PILOT ACADEMY WAY

Air Safety Pilot Academy cc offers a comprehensive range of basic and advanced flight training courses, to assist you to fulfill your dreams. Your Private Pilots License (PPL in pilot jargon) is your leisure license; and is issued to you when you convince a licensed instructor that you are ready to fly yourself and passengers around in complete safety. If you just want to fly for pleasure, a PPL is all you need.
A Night Rating is a useful addition to your PPL, entitling you to fly at night.  If you are a serious pilot, and want to earn a living flying, you will need a Commercial Pilot’s License. If you want to teach flying then you will need a Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL) and an Instructors Rating

The Instructors Rating is an excellent way to build up air hours and earn money.  An Instrument Rating is a very useful complement to either a PPL or a CPL and allows you to fly in adverse weather conditions.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO FLY?

To obtain a PPL you need?
A minimum of 45 hours of flight training, of which 15 hours will
be solo i.e. flying alone.
To pass a medical exam through an approved physician
To pass SACAA Exams in Air Law, Meteorology, Flight Planning,
Principles of Flight, Human Performance and Limitations,
Navigation, and Engines and Airframes, Radio Operation
Proficiency exam.

Experts agree that 2 or 3 lessons per week is ideal (each lesson is +/- 1 hour) but the advantage of Air safety’s personalized teaching approach is that it is completely flexible. The length of the course is entirely up to you.
You can learn to fly in just three weeks or pace it out over a year or more. Remember we are open 7 days a week so you can structure your flying around your own schedule.

IS IT HARD TO LEARN HOW TO FLY?

There is quite a bit to learn, and will take time and some concentration. On the other hand, what you will need to learn is not especially difficult, not nearly as difficult or complicated as most non-flyers think. It can be mastered by practically anyone.

IF I CAN’T AFFORD A PLANE, WHY BOTHER TO LEARN TO FLY?

The vast majority of private flying is done in aircraft pilots hire. Airplanes are widely available for hire and fly (at Air Safety for example). When you hire an aircraft, you only pay for the time that the engine is running. Unless you are planning to fly 100’s of hours per year, you can hire an aircraft from us at a lower cost than you could run your own.
Take some time to compare flying costs to motoring rates – you will see that flying is a very cost effective way of traveling. And that doesn’t take into account the time flying can save you not to mention that getting there may now be more than half the fun!!
MODERN TEACHING TECHNIQUES
Air Safety courses are set out according to SA CATS and CARs and conform to I.C.A.O (International Civil Aviation Organization) Standards. This means that your license will be internationally recognized. At Air Safety our courses are specially designed to progress you through to the achievement of your goal at your own pace, under the supervision of a personal Instructor. The tuition is on a one-to-one basis, by our experienced Instructors, to prepare you thoroughly and systematically for each one of your individual flight lessons. We do not rely on impersonal, biased, mechanical briefing systems.
Your course is structured to offer you a balanced schedule of practical flying exercises and theoretical groundwork. You will find your instructors are experienced, friendly professionals.
Why not come in and meet them?

WHO CAN LEARN TO FLY?
Anyone over the age of 17, and of average fitness can fly. If you are under 17, you can fly with an Instructor always present-and go solo on your 17 the birthday. There is no upper age limit.
For your PPL, you will need a Medical Certificate. This will be issued to you by a physician appointed by the I.A.M. (Institute for Aviation Medicine), and must be renewed on a regular basis afterwards. The Medical Examination includes X-rays, an ECG, and vision and hearing test-and yes, you can fly with glasses!

WHAT OTHER QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO FLY?
Very few, and matric is not one of them. The regulations say only that the applicant for a PPL must be "able to read, speak and understand the English language." From a practical standpoint, there are some mathematics involved in flight planning and navigation, but nothing very complicated and a part of your training will be devoted to making sure that you can manage these problems.
Three basic requirements for becoming a good pilot are common sense, a desire to learn how to fly, and a willingness to stay within the boundaries of both flight regulations and personal piloting ability.

HOW SAFE IS FLYING?  VERY!!!

Statistics show that flying is safer than driving-by far. The vast majority of pilots, even "old timers" with several thousand hours recorded in their logbooks, have almost never been involved in a flying accident or mishap of any kind.
Flying is safe because airplanes are safe. They are built to very rigid specifications – and they are constantly checked and rechecked to ensure safety and reliability. At Air Safety our aircraft are maintained to the highest standards of airworthiness.
And flying is safe because no one is permitted to fly until a licensed instructor is convinced he/she is ready to fly safely; and proficiency must be demonstrated before a pilot can take a passenger with them.
Pilots keep in practice. When you have achieved your license, you are expected to keep current. To maintain your PPL, for example, you are required to fly a minimum of 3 hours a year, or pass a flight test. At Air Safety we offer refresher training, geared to keep your aviation skills in top form.
Statistics show that aircraft accidents resulting in injuries are usually caused either directly or indirectly by pilot error. Thus accidents are caused not by the complexity of the airplanes, but by careless pilots. It should reassure you to know that Air Safety aircraft, students and graduates have an immaculate safety record!
